The Advanced Theatre programs at The Avenue Road Arts School:
- are the only year round, professional theatre programs for
kids and teens in the Greater Toronto Area of their kind
- are run by professional educators/actors/directors
- perform at 2 different professional theatre venues
- have 16-20
student actors, which allows for an excellent ratio of professional
instructors to theatre students
- offer customized learning and individual
attention with focus received by all cast members
– have small cast sizes, meaning everyone is featured in each theatre
performance
- work with only student actors and never hire professional actors
to act in their theatre theatre productions
- teach kids and teens a professional work ethic
and offer an intensive theatre production process with technical
elements like lighting and sound
- develop an understanding of how set,
props, costumes, lighting and sound can enhance and alter
performance and character, while building an appreciation for
these aspects of theatre
- perform 2 shows per year (per class)
which are fully scripted pieces that challenge all cast members
and are chosen with the individual talents of each and every
theatre company member in mind
- some scripts are written with input,
suggestions and themes taken from the kids and teens
themselves or from work created in the class development stage
