The magic begins when you mix clay, the imagination and the inspiring art of Ancient Civilizations. This 'mini museum' approach will introduce fun and fascinating facts of pottery-making from the ancient world of Egypt, Greece and Central America, while featuring creative hand-building techniques along with wheel throwing. Here's your chance to mix the wonders of modern claymaking with the fascinating world of the ancient artist.

FAMILY CLAY WORKSHOP (JK-Gr. 6)

Diane Hamilton

This class provides an opportunity for moms, dads, sons, daughters or grandparents to spend quality time together and learn clay techniques in a fun and imaginative way. Designed for children to attend with an adult, this class utilizes a variety of hand-building techniques like slab, coil, pinch and modeling. Students may also try throwing on a potter's wheel. Everyone participates and makes their own clay creation, which will be decorated and glazed.

Sink your hands into the magnificent muck of your imagination and pull out funky, fun and functional creations. Learn a variety of hand-building techniques: slab, coil, pinch and modeling and try throwing on a potter's wheel. Decorate the work with your own designs using bright, colourful glazes.

POTTERY II (Gr. 7-10)

Further develop your pottery skills through an exploration of advanced clay building and finishing techniques! Study will include the construction of functional and sculptural pieces using hand, slab and coil building methods, wheel throwing, and various surface finishing and glazing techniques. The class will discuss finished artworks to foster the development of individual style.

SCULPTURE (Gr. 7-10)

In this hands-on course, students will be introduced to the physical language of sculpture. Through a series of projects, young artists will learn the basics of spatial composition and sculptural fabrication techniques including hand building, clay modeling, mould making, casting and assemblage. This course is appropriate for artists of all experience levels.
