REALISM IN PAINTING

In this class, painters will learn how to paint what they see in
a precise and realistic way, as well as developing the skill to
see the details in what exactly to paint. Gaining a classical appreciation
and understanding of colour application, form, composition and the
use of light and shadow, students will gain the necessary experience
to take their painting skills to the next level. This course is
best suited for students with a fundamental understanding of oil
or acrylic painting.

THE NUDE AND PORTRAIT IN ACRYLIC

Designed for students who would like to explore the figure in-depth,
this class will delve into the many subtle details of working with
this subject matter. Students will depict the figure in the context
of its surrounding space and will address some of the complex issues
related to painting the human form. Shading, highlighting, flesh
tones, proportions and capturing the individual's character will
be some of the topics dealt with in this studio class. This course
is suitable for those who have had some experience with acrylic
painting.

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING I

This course is designed for students who wish to learn the basics
of watercolour painting, and also for those who wish to hone and
increase their level of skill and knowledge with this medium. Students
will learn colour mixing and theory, the use of watercolour brushes
and how to paint with the transparency of watercolours. Participants
will also explore various techniques such as making washes, wet-on-wet
painting and resist processes. The course also covers the fundamentals
of composition and perspective and students will work with a variety
of subject matter including still life, landscape, portraits and
subjects of their own choice. Drawing skill levels can vary. This
course can also allow students to study watercolour beyond the basic
level if they wish to continue during successive terms.

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING II

This course is intended for students with strong previous experience
and who wish to continue watercolour painting at an advanced level.
Students will be able to expand their painting skills by learning
new techniques and working within a project-based program. Varied
subject matter and themes will be explored, including appropriation,
Surrealism, painting from the imagination, multi-media works, and
narrative. The class will work with a live model two classes per
term for portraits and clothed-figure poses.

WATERCOLOUR PAINTING FROM PHOTOGRAPHS

If you are serious about learning technique and want professional
results, then this course is for you. Learn how to work from well-taken
photographs, to paint lively, expressive and believable images by
going beyond the flatness of 2-D. Some painting experience is preferable
but novices are welcome. Composition, colour theory and mixing,
and how they apply to watercolour techniques will be emphasized
through exercises and execution of complete works of art.
