Adult students experience a warm, congenial and supportive environment to learn and create in. The large roster of programs is designed to allow each individual to advance at his or her own pace. Each class offers a nice balance between challenging, fun, creative, and skill-based approaches. Working with professional instructors, who are practicing artists, helps to inspire students and ensure the latest studio approaches are being taught.

Digital Photography I

with Jennifer Chin

In this beginner/intermediate course, students will learn to confidently use their digital cameras to gain greater creative control of their photographic images. Students will be introduced to basic photographic techniques such as framing and composition while learning to use their camera's semi-automatic and manual controls. In-class slide lectures and weekly assignments will be accompanied by practical demonstrations and occasional field trips in which students will learn to practically employ the techniques and concepts covered in class. All levels of experience in this class are welcome.

Please note: Students are required to provide their own digital camera capable of full manual control. No previous experience is needed although basic computer skills and regular access to a computer for image transfer is necessary. Students who wish to explore this course for more than one term will be accommodated with appropriate challenges to meet their skill level.

Digital Photography II

This advanced/intermediate course is designed for students with a fundamental understanding of digital photography, who would like to develop their artistic, technical and photographic skills. With a combination of weekly thematic assignments, in-class slide lectures, field trips, and technical seminars, students will learn to confidently explore and express their ideas through their own photographic practice. Digital Photography I is strongly advised but not mandatory.

Please note: All students are required to provide their own digital camera capable of full manual control. Basic computer skills and regular access to a computer for image transfer is necessary. Students who wish to explore this course for more than one term will be accommodated with a different set of technical and thematic challenges in each term.

This advanced course is designed for photographers with a comprehensive understanding of digital photography who would like to develop and expand the artistic aspects of their practice. With a combination of thematic assignments, in-class slide lectures, self directed assignments, and group feedback sessions, students will learn to employ a variety of conceptual practices in their photography to further develop their ideas and their work. This course is ideal for students interested in developing a body of work. Digital Photo II is strongly advised but not mandatory.
