We will pick up children from Brown Junior Public School at 3:00pm (participants are picked up from the School office) or parents/caregivers with children at other schools can drop-off early. Snacks are provided. For kids staying to enjoy another after school program, we ensure that they get to their 4:30pm Arts School class! Otherwise, children can be picked up at the Arts School at 4:30pm.

Adventures with Art

From the Egyptians to Renoir to Picasso to Andy Warhol, students will create two-and three-dimensional art pieces, exploring colour, pattern and texture, based on some of the most famous artists and art pieces of past and present. This mixed media based class will allow children to explore and learn about many art materials and techniques, and is designed to give young artists an appreciation and understanding of art history in a fun and creative way. In a studio filled with exciting materials and tools, students will turn their ideas into works of art that will be their very own masterpieces!

Architecture & Design
(Grades 6-9)

Design any type of structure and space you want! This class will explore the fundamentals of architectural design, both in drawing and model form. Students will be able to handpick what they would like to design and some of the materials that they would like to use, based on their interests and past experience in this course or other art- based classes. We will use 2- and 3-dimensional methods of representational drawings, scale models and collage in designing the student's own spaces and structures. Each student will begin with an abstract concept for their specific design and end the term with a clear representation of that idea in drawing and scale model.

Baby Music

This class combines songs, puppets, rhymes, finger play and bouncing activities that will allow children to develop a love of music. Younger babies will explore and react to new sounds as singing, bells, shakers and drums are used. Older babies will develop their natural responsiveness to rhythm, beat, melody and tone and participate in finger play and movement activities. Cuddling, bouncing, rocking and other movement-based activities will be explored. Parents and caregivers participate while acquiring a delightful repertoire of poems and songs to sing with their child.

Digital Photography & Mixed Media
(Grades 7-10)

So many of us love to take pictures but once they are in our camera what can we do with them? In this course students will learn to use their own photographs to create exciting and experimental mixed media artworks. We will explore different ways of combining photography with a variety of material processes such as print making, acrylic transfer, textile design, ceramics, and collage. Students will create artworks which showcase their versatility, creativity, and unique vision of the world. The course will begin with photographic basis such as framing, lighting, and composition before moving to our mixed media projects.

Students should have access to some type of camera for this course. Cell phones, tablets, compact cameras, DSLRs are all welcome.

While experimenting with an exciting variety of artist's tools, media and techniques, students will learn to explore and trust their creative instincts.

Mixed Media Masterpieces

Tear, cut, rip, paste, glue, paint, draw, assemble - CREATE! In this fun and engaging program, students will make colourful, mixed media-based masterpieces based on the work of the great artists of the past and present! From paint, fabrics, papers, canvas, string, beads, wood, recycled materials and more, kids will explore texture, collage, color, surface design and composition while learning the fundamentals of combining painting, collage, drawing, assemblage and printmaking. The class will learn how to mix and combine materials using the elements and principles of design to create dramatic effects. The result will be the creation of numerous one-of-a-kind colourful art pieces that show off each child's unique personality.

Music and movement offers young children a way of naturally expressing themselves, developing social skills and enhancing their love of imagination and play. Watercolour Illustration
