Drama: Grade 11-12 High School Credit Class
Instructor TBA
This drama studio program is designed to develop and encourage the creative and artistic skills in students who want to earn a grade 11 or 12 high school drama credit. Under the auspices of the Blyth Academy in Toronto, this 32 week, 3 hours per week program meets the Ontario Arts Curriculum in drama and is specially designed to encourage both individual and ensemble work, allowing students to explore a variety of concepts, approaches and styles of theatre work.
Guided by several, specialized, professional artists/educators, students will explore voice, movement, character development, monologues and scene study, improvisation, physical theatre and clowning, while learning about theatre history and its impact on drama today as an art form. Teens who intend to study drama beyond high school will develop skills for future college, university or arts school auditions and will also explore appropriate material and repertoire for their auditions. Students will also learn to analyze, interpret and evaluate performance pieces; and gain a better understanding of theatre from other periods and cultures.
Students will be evaluated on the basis of how their participation and performances in class demonstrate their understanding and application of techniques and skills taught in the program and on their ability to work in an ensemble. As well, students will also be evaluated based on individual expression through both physical and verbal means and their understanding of drama as a form of communication.
