Architecture (Gr. 3-6)

Barbara Lilker

Students will travel through time and space, visiting landmark buildings and structures for the inspiration in their own design concepts. Using mixed media, as well as both 2- and 3- dimensional methods of representation - drawing, scale, model, collage-the class will explore the fundamentals of architectural design, while discovering how architecture defines time and place.

Architectural Design (Gr. 6-9)

Barbara Lilker

Using mixed media techniques and incorporating classic and modern architectural design, students will explore and create their own unique idea of a space, from abstract concept to a clear representation of their idea in drawing and model form. This is a "hands-on" course encouraging the exploration of creative space and is designed for students with a high concentration level and great attention to detail.

Family Taste Of The Arts (JK-Gr. 1 with an adult)

Enjoy an integrated arts class with a little one in your life. Join your child as they explore and enhance their imagination through visual art, drama and musical activities. Through mixed media-based art projects, cooperative drama and role-playing exercises, creative movement and musical activities and songs, your child will develop new skills and self-esteem - all while having a ton of fun.

Young artists will be introduced to exciting themes through visualization and drama exercises, while they create works of art that will be used in developing imaginative and unique stories and characters. Students will use a variety of art materials while working on creative 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional art, which will then be incorporated into story-telling, drama and creative movement activities.

Mixed Media

This class is designed for kids who like to experiment with art materials and love variety in creating art. Mixed Media classes encourage exploration using a wide range of artist's tools, materials and styles. Through painting, building, drawing, layering and assembling, students become aware of the limitless choices available to them in the creative process. The theme-based projects include both 2- and 3- dimensional art pieces. Each term there are new surprises, new materials, new techniques and challenging creative exercises introduced to the class.

Painting & Mixed Media (Gr. 2-4)

The use of color and painting techniques are the focus in this mixed media class, where students will create vibrant and imaginative 2- and 3-dimensional works of art. Students will playfully explore an exciting combination of tools and materials while focusing on fun painting techniques like painting alla prima, sgraffito, glazing, scumbling and impasto. Colour mixing, blending, contrasts and harmonies are considered. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the tools associated with tempera, acrylics, watercolour and gouache paints, as they begin to see the world through the eyes of artists past and present.

Papier Mâché (Gr. 3-6)

Nicola Wismer

Learn to make anything that your imagination can dream up using the tactile and creative medium of papier mâché. This is a unique mixed media-based class that will focus on creating many kinds of fun and one of a kind sculptural projects. Everything from traditional modeling techniques, building and assemblage with found objects will be explored. Attention will be given to finishing each art piece in a personalized way, using paints and plenty of surprise materials.

Stop-Motion Animation (Gr. 4-8)

Watch Out Hollywood! In this course, students will create a stop-motion animated film from start to finish. The class will create a storyline, accompanying storyboards, puppets, props & backgrounds, as well as animate & film their work. Storywriting, drawing, painting, sculpting, filming & drama are all used for the creation of films that are then edited by the instructor and a copy given to each student.
