Enjoy a week of art, drama, and fun while exploring enriching and creative themes!

Our large roster of visual and performing arts programs for kids and teens are carefully chosen and designed to offer students lots of choice, while incorporating a nice balance between challenging, creative, engaging, skill-based and fun classes.

Students that choose to register for a morning and afternoon class are automatically enrolled in our lunch supervision program at no cost. Students provide their own nut-free lunch. Before camp and after camp care is available.

Grades are based on the grade the student is entering in Fall 2017. See Registration Policies.

July 4-7 (4-day week)

Abstract Painting

Grades 4-8

In this fun and contemporary approach to painting, young artists will experiment with drawing and painting techniques while being introduced to new ways of looking at and approaching subject matter. Fresh ideas and the latest methods, materials and the ways in which they can be incorporated into painting will be explored. Students will be encouraged to explore, use experimentation and be spontaneous in the development of their own painting ideas. Plenty of photo references of contemporary and modern art will be provided to show students how composition, balance, colour, form and symbolism make abstract and modern art paintings into powerful art pieces.

Acting for Film & TV

If you dream of being on television or acting in a film, then this class is for you! Through improvisation, students will gain a better understanding of creating a character, working with a script and having a great on-camera presence. If you love graphic novels or if you doodle and draw every chance you get, then this class is perfect for you. Students will begin to design and create their very own graphic novel, while they explore and develop their creative and technical abilities. Through the use of pencil, pen, brush and ink, watercolour and more, students will draw amazing illustrations and create the concepts for storyboards inspired by a character that they develop. Inspiration will also be taken from pop art, graffiti, popular comic books and novels, as well as music, movies, and videogames.

TThis is a hands-on class for students who love exploration! Students will delve in and explore a variety of materials and mediums, as well as their own creative choices. Using photography, magazine clippings, collage materials, acrylic paints, inks, dyes and much more, students will learn exciting techniques to create one of a kind and contemporary works of art. The class will manipulate photos using paint, pen, ink and collage materials to create texture and layers and learn how to use art materials to communicate ideas and images in ways that go beyond the traditional. This class is perfect for those planning to eventually audition for entry into an arts high school or those who are interested in approaching an agent or auditioning for a school show. The art of the audition is a skill that benefits from special coaching. There are many techniques and tips that any performer, from amateur to pro, can easily use to both improve the audition and become a more confident performer or public speaker. Once you craft your audition, you can focus on the work you are presenting, not on the nerves and doubt that surround your presentation. The class will also address other audition elements, including the interview and the improvisational portion, allowing you to not only craft your monologue but your overall presentation as well.

Although, the program focuses primarily on dance skills, acting and singing will also be touched upon. The program also educates and prepares students for the dance component of a musical theatre audition.

This advanced studio course is intended for young artists interested in building a cohesive portfolio of work while developing their repertoire of art-making techniques. Through a series of hands-on projects, students will gain experience and technical proficiency in a wide variety of media. Techniques covered in this course include drawing and painting from observation, sketchbook and concept development and drawing the human form. Studio work will be supplemented with discussions and critiques to allow students to develop a language through which they can exercise observation, research and critical thinking skills. For college, university and art school applicants, interview and presentation techniques will also be discussed.

Dioramas & Shadow Boxes

Come and create your own fairytale or mythical story. Students will have fun creating the backdrops and set of their miniature worlds, as well as the creatures and characters that inhabit the story. Mixed media will be used, including specialty papers, paper clay, papier mâché, found objects, paints and some surprise materials. Students will have their own mini-theatre through these amazing and unique diorama art pieces. The class will be encouraged to document their stories in writing, if they choose to do so.

Pop art is one of the major art movements of the twentieth century. This fun and eye- catching art form is characterized by utilizing popular images and icons and by incorporating themes, techniques and subject matter from comic books, advertising and product packaging. In this mixed media-based program the class will explore the realm of storytelling through visual mediums. Choosing one story to illustrate, students will create a series of illustrations that beautifully and cohesively depict their chosen story. As a way of exploring the variety of art mediums used in professional illustrations today, each illustration, created by the students, will be made using different media like ink, watercolour, gouache, plasticine, paper cut outs and collage.

This course will teach students to use their digital cameras to capture creative and compelling images. They will be introduced to basic photographic skills as well as creative camera techniques such as selective focus, frozen action, and long exposure photography through a combination of simple assignments, in-class slide lectures, practical demonstrations, and field trips.

Please note: Students are required to provide their own digital camera capable of full manual control. Access to a computer and the use of a USB key is necessary for image transfer and selection.
