Using unique materials and the latest studio approaches, our tailor-made Arts Workshops are led by professional artist/educators. Workshops in the arts complement classroom themes and subject areas and are designed to link with the Ontario Curriculum.

Painting & Mixed Media
(JK/SK & Grades 1-3)
The use of colour and painting techniques are the focus in this mixed media class. Students will create vibrant and imaginative paintings that incorporate collage and layering styles, as well as creating some unique 3-dimensional works of art. The class will playfully explore an exciting combination of tools and materials while focusing on developing painting skills. Design, colour mixing, blending, form, balance, composition and contrasts are considered, while students explore their imaginations and creativity in a supportive and fun environment.

Cartooning & Illustration
Are you interested in comics, cartoons, graphic novels or do you just like to draw? Students of any ability will learn to develop their narrative and graphic abilities through the use of dip pens, brush and ink, acrylic paint, scratchboard and more! Projects can include: trading cards, comic anthologies, animation flipbooks and dozens of other activities developed through the surprisingly complex language of cartooning.

In this hands-on studio program, young artists will develop and refine a variety of hand- building clay techniques: pinching, coiling, slab construction and modelling. Students will learn surface decoration techniques as well, working with underglazes, and low-fire glazes. Past projects have included mythical creatures, bobble head self-portraits, cake containers, pop art sculptures, miniature bookshelves, skeleton mobiles, gargoyles and grotesques, dinosaurs, clay masks, portrait vessels, portrait tiles and imaginative houses.

Draw your very own cartoon characters, creatures, animals and magical beasts. Using a variety of artist's tools and materials, including pencil, pen, ink, paint and more, students will design funny faces, outrageous bodies and the many dynamic actions and unique stories that go along with these new characters.
