The Avenue Road Arts School delivers dynamic and educational arts workshops to schools and child-focused centres across the GTA. Using unique materials and the latest studio approaches, our tailor-made Arts Workshops are led by professional artist/educators. Workshops in the arts complement classroom themes and subject areas and are designed to link with the Ontario Curriculum.

Painting & Mixed Media

The use of colour and painting techniques are the focus in this mixed media class. Students will create vibrant and imaginative paintings that incorporate collage and layering styles, as well as creating some unique 3-dimensional works of art. The class will playfully explore an exciting combination of tools and materials while focusing on developing painting skills. Design, colour mixing, blending, form, balance, composition and contrasts are considered, while students explore their imaginations and creativity in a supportive and fun environment.

Mabin School

Musical Theatre
Grade 2-6

Students will be introduced to fun drama exercises, basic script work, improvisational exercises, singing and choreography. Young performers will start building the skills and confidence needed to perform, create stories, communicate ideas and explore characters. A supportive and encouraging environment will be provided so students feel safe being spontaneous, learning problem solving skills and discovering how to give and take through drama. Final presenta- tions or stories can be developed with the classes, if desired. Puppetry and mask work can also be included or explored through the drama workshops.

The Dalton School

Clay Creations
JK-Grade 1

with Linda Prussick

Young artists will develop and refine a variety of handbuilding clay techniques: pinching, coiling, slab construction and modeling. Students will learn surface decoration techniques as well, working with underglazes, and low-fire glazes. Projects can include colour wheel clocks, self-portraits, dinosaurs, clay masks, vessels, personal tiles and imaginative houses. All clay will be fired in the kilns at the Avenue Road Arts School.
