Myths & Legends Through Painting (Gr. 5-9)

9:00 am-12:00 pm

What if Da Vinci's Mona Lisa could speak? What if Degas' ballerinas could finish their dance or we could see what happened the afternoon of Van Gogh's Starry Night? Each famous painting tells a magnificent story, not just for the painter but for each and every viewer. Students will learn the necessary techniques to draw and paint while learning about, and then reinterpreting the most famous paintings of our time. Skills such as colour mixing, brushwork, measuring properties, shading and highlighting, as well as communicating a story through painting will be emphasized. Students will be encouraged to bring their own ideas and creativity to paint unique and personal artwork based on historical images.

Arthur & Guinevere: Exploring Medieval Stories Through Clay (Gr. 5-9)

1:00-4:00 pm

This fun and hands-on workshop will allow clay sculptors to explore the legends of the Knights of the Round Table and the exciting Medieval times. Along with reading excerpts from these stories, the class will create two projects: a grail and a castle. The grail will be decorated with relief panels, personalized and uniquely finished to reflect the hopes and dreams of each artist. For the castle, students will look at images of different castles and each design and then create their own three-dimensional version in clay.
