Avenue Road Arts School
Beyond the Box™ Ventures Beyond Toronto

John Crow New Chair of Arts For Children Board

Now in its second year of operation, the Avenue Road Arts School's Beyond the Box™ program for corporate executives has been received with great enthusiasm. The aim of the workshop is to teach participants how to think like artists and to allow their creative juices to flow. By using drama exercises and artmaking activities, new tools are put into the heads, hands and hearts of business people. It is a training session in thinking differently.

Recently, our Beyond the Box™ team travelled to Kingston where 45 senior Human Resources professionals from Bell Canada's Toronto and Montreal offices met for a three-day conference on "Building an HR Community."

Here are some observations from George Krauss, Director of Human Resources at Bell Canada.

"We found that Beyond the Box personnel offered outstanding expertise and flexibility in delivering a customized program that blended nicely with our conference theme and content. The exercises selected provided an excellent open and creative forum for us to enhance team building, explore fun ways to build trust, learn more about ourselves and stimulate every person's creativity and individuality.

Most importantly, the fun aspect cannot be understated. Watching people let their hair down and let loose was especially noticeable and appreciated by all. As a result of our conference and the "Beyond the Box" experience, we continue to explore ways to strike a balance between getting the job done – in the fast-paced world we live in – while providing elements of fun, relaxation and social gatherings.

Feedback from the Conference participants indicated that this was one of the most rewarding sessions they had attended in years and they welcomed the variety that was provided."

Some other Beyond the Box™ clients have included: Alliance Atlantis Entertainment; GE Capital; Nortel Networks; The Rotman School of Management.

Sam the Record Man Celebrity Model for Art Discovery Day

Sam sniderman surrounded by artists and their portraiture interpretationsDrawing enthusiasts were lucky enough to have the opportunity to draw Sam Sniderman at the Avenue Road ArtsSchool's Art Discovery Day.

Under the supervision of Sadko Hadzhihasanovic, twelve renditions of the face we all have come to know and love were produced in an hour – much to the delight of the artists, onlookers and of course Sam! Other activities that day included a garden sculpture workshop, flag and crown making and a cartooning workshop.

The day provided an opportunity for people unfamiliar with the school to visit and participate in the artmaking experience.

We are honoured that John Crow, former Governor of the Bank of Canada, has agreed to Chair the Board of Arts for Children of Toronto. Arts for Children is our charitable arm dedicated to providing positive, high quality experiences in the arts to children regardless of their financial circumstances.

Mr. Crow has already led the board well down the road towards making our scholarships available to more and more deserving children.

We need to raise $20,000 more by September 28 in order to access the $75,000 in matching endowment funds set aside by the Ontario Arts Council for Arts for Children of Toronto's scholarship program. Contributions are tax deductible and any size donation will be gratefully accepted.

Should you choose to donate securities, the capital gain will be taxed at a highly advantageous rate. Contributions are tax deductible and any size donation will be gratefully accepted.
