Sunday Workshops
Back by Popular Demand!

We have had so many requests for week-end workshops that we are introducing a wide range of half-, full-, and two-day workshops this spring. Many of you would like to explore your own creativity but your intense schedules don't permit a ten-week commitment to a course. Others would like to participate in hands-on art activity with your children.

In response to your suggestions, we will be offering Sunday workshops in April, May and June.

Take Pictures in Cuba Anyone?

Arts for Children of Toronto is considering a fundraising project which will take members of the Avenue Road Arts School community to Cuba for a four-day week-end with photography teacher Curtis Trent and School Director Lola Rasminsky. All profits will be donated to the Arts for Children of Toronto Scholarship Fund. The trip will take place in mid-May if there is sufficient enthusiasm. The cost, including, airfare, hotel and picture taking expeditions, will be $1600. Interested? Please call Lola at (416) 961-1502.

headless musicianWhen student, Jan Mok, came up with the idea of donating student work to hospitals she probably didn't know that she was giving birth to a large scale venture that will brighten the lives of many people who need something to make them smile. Several members of the arts school community volunteered to serve on a committee.

We are now in the process of collecting works of art from both children and adults that will adorn hospitals and children's centres throughout the city. The works will be hung with full recognition to the artist. So often, today, hospitals don't have the budget to buy quality artwork and as a result many hospital corridors and waiting rooms are barren and sterile.

One agency, in particular, will receive works from the school's art show at Metro Hall last September. The Centre for Abused Children on Yonge Street responds to children and families who have been traumatized by abuse. They are delighted to make their facility more child-affirming by hanging work that celebrates the many remarkable abilities of young children.

If you or your child would like to donate some art work to this project, please contact our Curator, Sally Frater at (416) 961-1502.
