The Ontario Trillium Foundation Recognizes AFC AFC Update

Arts for Children of Toronto recently received a $102,000 three-year grant from The Ontario Trillium Foundation to help cover its operating costs. The funds will allow the charitable arm of the Avenue Road Arts School to develop a stronger operational structure, while incorporating a much needed volunteer committee into its administrative mix.

Arts for Children of Toronto is now poised to reach two thousand children in underserved communities through its innovative programming. Last year, children from twelve inner-city schools and community organizations participated in AFC programming. A thousand children had the opportunity to experience the joys and challenges of making art in ways that they will remember for a very long time.

What a Difference a Year Makes!

Arts for Children of Toronto has experienced incredible growth. Thanks to the support of our many donors, in the last year, we have been able to touch the lives of over 1000 children. Here is what some of our participants had to say about our programs:

"I liked that my child had access to a program that she would enjoy. It gave her a bigger view of art, and allowed her to connect with more children and learn new things about herself."
– Scholarship Parent

"She has improved a lot in interacting with other kids and she opens up more easily. I believe her staying with the program helped her develop fully as a creative and more expressive person."
– Scholarship Parent

"It allows all children, no matter the socioeconomic background, the opportunity to enjoy wonderful art programs."
– Scholarship Parent

"The visiting artist provided me with valuable extension ideas, and guided my feedback to students."
– Teacher, Weston Memorial Public School

"Sparked a lot of eagerness in my class and around the school. Our display boards have never looked so good!
– Teacher, Warren Park Junior Public School

"It really allowed the children to see themselves as artists"
– Teacher, Warren Park Junior Public School

"The instructors provided a very supportive learning environment where students were encouraged to discover and develop their artistic abilities. Students who usually have difficulty focusing in class were now silent, interested and totally engaged for the full day."
– Principal, King George Junior Public School
