Don't miss Art Discovery Day on Sunday, June 4th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The free, hands-on arts event will be held at the school and will be jam-packed with activities and demonstrations for both children and adults. In addition, registration for the fall, winter and spring 2006/2007 will take place at the event. It's a terrific opportunity to meet staff and instructors. So come and bring a friend! The program schedule for Summer 2006 can now be found on our site and registration is open. We offer half-day and full-day camps for JK-Grade 4. This year's camp theme is the story of "The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe." Also available are toddler camps and arts programs for Grades 3-10 and adults. Rachel Daley's Grades 7-10 Drawing and Painting class has been given the opportunity to participate in a mural project at the Hospital for Sick Children in April. This installation, a series of comic characters painted on the hospital's atrium windows, will help the children feel more comfortable during their stay. Rachel's students will also benefit, as the hours spent on this project can be used towards their mandatory high school volunteer service credits. The Avenue Road Arts School is honoured to be included in this exciting venture.

Avenue Road's Kinder Arts students are also reaching out to the community. Continuing a project that started in spring of 2004, the children are once again creating art to be distributed with the Meals on Wheels program operating out of St. Christopher's House. Not only does it give the children a chance to learn about and help the less fortunate, this program also serves to bridge the generational gap between the elderly recipients and our pre-school students.

The pre-school classes have also been busy creating paper murals for the Music for Children-Carl Orff Canada National Conference for music educators. The artwork, which represents what music and dance means to our students, will be on display during the conference. The conference will run from April 27th to the 30th at the Toronto Hilton.
