Summer Kids & Teens Classes


Enjoy a week of art, drama, and fun while exploring enriching and creative themes!

Our large roster of visual and performing arts programs for kids and teens are carefully chosen and designed to offer students lots of choice, while incorporating a nice balance between challenging, creative, engaging, skill-based and fun classes.

Students that choose to register for a morning and afternoon class are automatically enrolled in our lunch supervision program at no cost. Students provide their own nut-free lunch. Before camp and after camp care is available.

Grades are based on the grade the student is entering in Fall 2018. See Registration Policies.
All materials included. HST is added to all fees.

Every effort will be made to run programs at our facility, however some programs may be held off-site at the First Unitarian Congregation of Toronto, which is located at 175 St. Clair Avenue West (the south west side of Avenue Rd. and St. Clair). You will receive notification of this location change one week prior to the start of your program.

Please note that room schedules are not finalized until one week prior to the start of a program. We can not guarantee your classroom prior to this time.

Creating a Hybrid Manga

Grades 6-9

with Louie Kang

Manga, meaning comics or printed cartoons, originated in Japan and is a highly stylized form of cartoon illustration. In this fun and creative class, students will learn the fundamentals of Manga illustration, but will create their own unique spin on this popular art form. Students will learn character/gesture drawing techniques, perspective, storyboard concepts and layout options.

Comic Book Studies

Grades 4-8

Learn to draw fun and unique cartoon characters and creatures. As you create your own comic strip, you will learn how to draw funny faces, strange aliens and hilarious animals. Create your own action book using animation techniques.

Landscape Painting

Grades 6-9

with Pete Smith

This course is for students who enjoy the detail, inspiration and excitement of the outdoors. Using a variety of materials, including an assortment of paint, pens, pastels and papers, participants will venture outdoors to create preliminary landscape sketches. The class will revisit these sketches in the studio to arrive at a completed landscape painting.

Pop Art

Grades 4-8

Pop art is one of the major art movements of the twentieth century. This fun and eye- catching art form is characterized by utilizing popular images and icons and by incorporating themes, techniques and subject matter from comic books, advertising and product packaging. In this unique workshop, students will explore the works of famous Pop artists, like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichenstein to create their own Pop Art that reflects ideas from today’s popular culture.
