Techniques in Musical Theatre (Gr. 7-12)

In this intensive,
technique-based workshop young performers will focus on a different
element of musical theatre each day. While refining and working
on dance and choreography techniques, students will feel more
confident learning to pick-up combinations quickly. Singing, voice
and breath control will be explored as students exercise their
vocal techniques and acting skills will be presented through a
series of monologue and presentation exercises. This workshop is
perfect for students who are interested in further developing their
performance skills and for those who would like to audition for
musical productions.

Photography for Kids (Gr. 3-6)

Young photographers will learn the basics and fundamentals of
photography as they develop confidence in what and how they see
with a camera. Students will have the opportunity to have fun and
explore photography with a still camera alongside other media and
techniques, like painting, collage and photo transfer. Students
must bring their own camera (disposable camera is acceptable),
film, and proof prints to class.

Drawing & Painting: Modern Art (Gr. 7-10)

Young artists will
experiment with traditional drawing and painting techniques,
while being introduced to new ways of seeing and looking at subject
matter. Fresh ideas and the latest approaches to the usage of new
materials and the ways in which they can be incorporated into painting
will be explored as students create original and inspired art.

Painting & Mixed Media (Gr. 4-8)

The use of colour and
painting techniques are the focus in this mixed media class,
where students will create vibrant and imaginative 2- and 3-dimensional
works of art. Students will playfully explore an exciting combination
of tools and materials while focusing on fun painting techniques
like painting alla prima, sgraffito, glazing, scumbling and impasto.
Colour mixing, blending, contrasts and harmonies are considered.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about the tools associated
with tempera, acrylics, watercolour and gouache paints, as they
begin to see the world through the eyes of artists past and present.

Drawing & Painting (Gr. 3-6)

While experimenting with an exciting
variety of the artist's tools, media and techniques, students
will learn to explore and trust their imaginations and creative
instincts. Working from still life, photographs and images from
art history, students will be introduced to specific drawing and
painting fundamentals and techniques. These include line, value,
shape, pattern, texture, shading, highlighting, colour, perspective
and collage. Young artists will further develop their artistic
skills while discovering their own personal style.

Introduction to Oil Painting (Gr. 9-12)

In this course, students will learn to
feel comfortable using oil paints, while exploring the necessary
techniques and skills needed to create unique masterpieces. The
fundamentals of colour theory, paint handling and application,
as well as developing perceptual skills will be explored. Discussions
will include the development of a body of work and discovering
one's own unique style and approach to painting.

Architecture: Design and Create Your Own Space (Gr. 4-9)

Imagine a place to call your own!
Using multimedia techniques, students will explore the fundamentals
of architectural design: bringing his or her unique idea of what
a special space would be like, from an abstract concept to a
clear representation of that idea in model and drawing form.

Drawing & Painting Realistic Art (Gr. 7-10)

This workshop is designed for young artists
who wish to learn a classical and representational approach to
painting. Time-honoured techniques that have been passed down
from the Renaissance to the Impressionist period will be demonstrated
and discussed as students learn to examine details and paint
exactly as they see. The medium of choice will be acrylic paint.
