- Prices include all materials and applicable

- There will be no classes on the August 1 Civic Holiday.
- Grade level refers to grade student is entering
in Fall 2011.
- Courses are listed in chronological order.
- Lunch supervision is included for full-day registrants, and is available for $30 per week for half-day students.
- After-class
care available until 5:30 pm at $40 per week.

The Painted Canvas - All About Me (Gr. 4-8)

Creating a unique and personal piece of art will be the highlight of this artistic experience. Through the use of painting, photography, mixed media and a wide array of art materials, students are encouraged to explore and experiment using a canvas beyond the basic, 2-dimensional art form. You will design your concept on paper, bring in personal items, and use an exciting combination of art materials to create a highly personalized creation. Ideas are sparked into action through colour-mixing, layering and assembling. You will become aware of the limitless choices available to you in the creative process while creating a piece of art all about you!

Pop Art (Gr. 4-8)

Pop art is one of the major art movements of the twentieth century. This fun and eye-catching art form is characterized by utilizing popular images and icons and by incorporating themes, techniques and subject matter from comic books, advertising and product packaging. In this unique workshop, students will explore the works of famous Pop artists, like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein to create their own Pop Art that reflects ideas from today's popular culture.

Painting Modern Art (Gr. 7-10)

Young artists will experiment with traditional drawing and painting techniques, while being introduced to new ways of looking and approaching subject matter. Abstract Painting (Gr. 4-8)

This is the perfect class for kids and teens who love to paint. In this fun and contemporary approach to painting, students will be encouraged to explore, use experimentation and be spontaneous in the development of their painting ideas. Plenty of photo references of contemporary and modern art will be provided to show students how composition, balance, colour, form and symbolism make abstract paintings into powerful art pieces. The class will also be encouraged to experiment with different painting techniques and use collage and various other media in their paintings.

Photography & Mixed Media (Gr. 3-6)

Young photographers will learn the basics and fundamentals of photography as they develop confidence in what and how they see with a camera. Students will have the opportunity to have fun and explore photography with a still camera alongside other media and techniques, like painting, collage and photo transfer. Students must bring their own camera (disposable camera is acceptable), film, and proof prints to class.

Drawing & Painting (Gr. 4-8)

While experimenting with an exciting variety of the artist's tools, media and techniques, students will learn to explore and trust their imaginations and creative instincts. Working from still life, photographs and images from art history, students will be introduced to drawing and painting fundamentals and techniques. These include line, value, shape, pattern, texture, shading, highlighting, colour perspective and collage. Young artists will further develop their artistic skills while discovering their own personal style.

Starting your Portfolio (Gr. 5-9)

This studio course is intended for young artists interested in building a portfolio of work and developing a body of artwork for further art studies or simply for their own keeping. Techniques covered in this course include drawing and painting from still life, the clothed model, photographs, as well as learning sketchbook and concept development techniques.

Painting Portraits: People & Animals (Gr. 4-8)

Discover your own personal style and individual expression while learning the techniques needed for creating portrait paintings of people and animals. Learn how shape, dimension, measuring properties, shading/highlighting and colour mixing apply to the human and animal form. Clay Creations (Gr. 4-8)

Explore the fun and creative medium of clay! Clay sculptors will develop and refine a variety of hand-building techniques: pinching, coiling, slab construction and modeling. During the course of the week, students will put the finishing touches on their clay pieces, incorporating their own designs and patterns and using bright, colourful glazes. No previous experience is necessary.

Understanding the principles and elements of colour and design is essential for any aspiring artist. Learning these building blocks will ensure the success of an art creation and provide young artists with the confidence to experiment and allow self-expression to shine through. While exploring with drawing, acrylic painting, printmaking and collage, students will design and develop amazing art pieces, using the fundamental elements of colour and design and develop their understanding of what makes art interesting to create and to look at.

Contemporary Landscape Painting (Gr. 5-9)

In this workshop, young artists explore landscape painting in an expressive, experimental and interpretative way. Using traditional drawing and painting techniques, students are introduced to new ways of seeing and looking at a traditional subject matter. Participants will develop creative skills, experiment with materials and try out new techniques including layering with paint, working with colour washes and glazes, impasto and the use of gels. The result will be acrylic paintings created in very unique styles.
