Experienced Artist Educators

The Avenue Road Arts School, established in 1993, has become a leader in arts education. In addition to our in‐house programming, we run a number of creative and inspiring classes held at private and public schools within the GTA. We are looking to expand our roster of artist/educators to offer new and unique arts-­‐based programs across the city.

We are looking for educators who can teach:

    • Drawing and Painting
    • Mixed Media-Based Art
    • Cartooning & Illustration
    • Costume, Fashion and Jewelry Design
    • Sculpture & Clay
    • Drama & Musical Theatre


The ideal candidates should have:

    • a post‐secondary education in their art specialty
    • plenty of teaching experience with children JK to Grade 8
    • a valid and current vulnerable sector check
    • a creative, energetic, outgoing and friendly personality
    • knowledge on the steps needed to nurture a student’s creative abilities
    • flexibility, adaptability and the ability to work independently
    • strong classroom management skills


All teaching positions are part‐time, independent contract positions. Some training will be involved. Due to the transport of materials, a valid driver’s license and access to a car would be helpful but not mandatory.

Drama & Music Specialist for Children (3 to 9 years)

The Avenue Road Arts School is looking for an experienced and knowledgeable drama and music educator to teach comprehensive music and drama lessons, during the School’s summer camps, to children 3 to 9 years old.

The ideal candidate should have:

    • a post‐secondary education in one of the art forms with further formal training in music or drama
    • previous experience teaching drama and music to young children
    • a good working knowledge and extensive repertoire of children’s songs, creative movement and drama exercises
    • some experience with lesson planning
    • be available for the months of July and August (Monday‐Friday)
    • a positive, energetic and friendly personality
    • a valid and current vulnerable sector check
    • flexibility, adaptability and the ability to work independently and in a team
    • strong classroom management skills


Preference will be shown to candidates who play an instrument and can incorporate that into their lessons, as well as some knowledge of Orff, Kodaly and drama pedagogy.

Artist Studio Assistant

The Avenue Road Arts School, established in 1993, has become a leader in arts education. In addition to our in-house programming, we also run a number of creative and inspiring programs at private and public schools within the GTA. We are currently looking for Studio Assistants to work in our classes, both inhouse and in outreach programs.

Do you have experience working with children in the following disciplines?

    • Drawing and Painting
    • Pottery & Clay
    • Mixed Media-Based Art
    • Cartooning & Illustration
    • Musical Theater & Drama

 
Studio Assistants:

    • help to prepare the art materials
    • support the lead instructor in delivering the lesson
    • work with the students to complete their projects
    • assist with classroom management
    • help to clean up the studio and materials after the class

 
Candidates should:

      • have training in an art form
      • have some experience working with children JK to Grade 8
      • have a valid and current vulnerable sector check
      • be creative, energetic, outgoing, friendly and know how to nurture a student’s creative abilities
      • be passionate about his or her art form
      • have the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative way
      • possess strong classroom management skills

 
This is a part-time, contract position. Scheduled hours can fall anywhere in the following:

  • Monday to Friday, 3:00 to 6:30 PM
  • Saturdays, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Sundays, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

** March Break and Summer Camp hours may also be possible. Some training will be involved.
