DRAWING & PAINTING WITH CHARCOAL
One of earliest drawing tools known to man is charcoal. The Niaux cave paintings in France are the first recorded use of charcoal as an artistic medium, assumed created 12,000 years ago. In the 20th century charcoal started to be used as a legitimate medium for finished work, prior to which it was used primarily for preparatory drawings. This course teaches you how to create many effects using charcoal as a drawing AND as a painting medium. You will learn how to move charcoal around until you’re happy with the results and then make it permanent. Students will also learn how to create an oil-based charcoal medium and a water-based charcoal medium and find out how to paint a watercolor piece using charcoal alone.
