The Avenue Road Arts School delivers dynamic and educational arts workshops to schools and child-focused centres across the GTA. Using unique materials and the latest studio approaches, our tailor-made Arts Workshops are led by professional artist/educators.

We offer:

  • In-School Workshops in the performing or visual arts for children JK-Grade 6
  • After-School Programs in the performing or visual arts for children JK-Grade 8
  • Community Programs: Murals, Hallway Beautification, Outdoor Installations, and Set Design & Construction
  • Professional Development workshops in visual or performing arts for faculty & parent volunteers

Cottingham Junior Public School

Painting & Mixed Media (SK-Grade 2)

The use of colour and painting techniques are the focus in this mixed media class. Students will create vibrant and imaginative paintings that incorporate collage and layering styles, as well as creating some unique 3-dimensional works of art. The class will playfully explore an exciting combination of tools and materials while focusing on developing painting skills. Design, colour mixing, blending, form, balance, composition and contrasts are considered, while students explore their imaginations and creativity in a supportive and fun environment.

Bennington Heights Elementary School

Recycled Creations (JK-Grade 2)

Using a variety of recycled materials, young artists will combine their creative imaginations to create multi-layered art pieces, using found and everyday materials. Students will have the opportunity to build 3-d creations and sculptures, while learning about the environment and reducing our impact on earth. Each term, materials and themes will change but projects may include robots, animals in their habitats, under the sea and more.

Architecture & Design (Grades 3-6)

with Barb Lilker

Design any type of structure and space you want! This class will explore the fundamentals of architectural design, both in drawing and model form. Students will be able to handpick what they would like to design and some of the materials that they would like to use, based on their interests and past experience in this course or other art-based classes. We will use 2- and 3-dimensional methods of representational drawings, scale models and collage in designing the student’s own spaces and structures.
