Clay Creations
(Grades 1-4, Grades 4-8)

with Sandra Tarantino

In this hands-on studio program, young artists will develop and refine a variety of hand-building clay techniques: pinching, coiling, slab construction and modeling. Students will learn surface decoration techniques as well, working with underglazes, and low-fire glazes. Past projects have included mystical creatures, bobble head self-portraits, cake containers, pop art sculptures, miniature bookshelves, skeleton mobiles, gargoyles and grotesques, dinosaurs, clay masks, portrait vessels, portrait tiles and imaginative houses. While the focus is on hand-building techniques, students also get to try throwing on a potter’s wheel.
