Pick Up Notice

3:15-4:15pm Classes We will pick up children from Brown Junior Public School at 3:10pm (participants are picked up from the School office) or parents/caregivers with children at other schools can drop-off early. For kids staying to enjoy another after school program, we ensure that they get to their 4:30pm Arts School class! Otherwise, children can be picked up at the Arts School at 4:15pm. Should you require pick-up from Brown School at 4:30pm special arrangements must be made in advance.

Adventures with Art

From the Egyptians to Renoir to Picasso to Andy Warhol, students will create two-and three-dimensional art pieces, exploring colour, pattern and texture, based on some of the most famous artists and art pieces of past and present. This mixed media-based class will allow children to explore and learn about many art materials and techniques, and is designed to give young artists an appreciation and understanding of art history in a fun and creative way. In a studio filled with exciting materials and tools, students will turn their ideas into works of art that will be their very own masterpieces!

Architecture & Design
(Grades 6-9)

with Barbara Lilker

Design any type of structure and space you want! This class will explore the fundamentals of architectural design, both in drawing and model form. Students will be able to handpick what they would like to design and some of the materials that they would like to use, based on their interests and past experience in this course or other art-based classes. We will use two and three dimensional methods of representational drawings, scale models and collage in designing the student’s own spaces and structures. Each student will begin with an abstract concept for their specific design and end the term with a clear representation of that idea in drawing and scale model.

Mixed Media Masterpieces
(Grades 1-4)

Tear, cut, rip, paste, glue, paint, draw, assemble – CREATE! In this fun and engaging program, students will make colourful, mixed media-based masterpieces based on the work of the great artists of the past and present! From paint, fabrics, papers, canvas, string, beads, wood, recycled materials and more, kids will explore texture, collage, color, surface design and composition while learning the fundamentals of combining painting, collage, drawing, assemblage and printmaking. The class will learn how to mix and combine materials using the elements and principles of design to create dramatic effects. The result will be the creation of numerous one-of-a-kind colourful art pieces that show off each child’s unique personality.

Musical Arts

This integrated arts class of visual art and music allows young children to bloom and discover the uniqueness within themselves. Students will be exposed to a variety of art materials and themes, which will then be incorporated into creative movement and musical activities. The use of colour and painting techniques are the focus in this mixed media class. Students will create vibrant and imaginative paintings that incorporate collage and layering styles, as well as creating some unique 3-dimensional works of art. Design, colour mixing, blending, form, balance, composition and contrasts are considered, while students explore their imaginations and creativity in a supportive and fun environment.

Science Art

Using a variety of art materials, young artists will combine their creative imaginations with their curiosity about the world around them to create multi-layered art pieces. This energetic and themed-based program combines visual art, drama and music together in fun, engaging and age-appropriate lessons. Projects and activities are specially designed to develop fine and gross motor skills, while creative self-expression, communication, sensory awareness and problem-solving skills begin to take flight.
Age-appropriate lessons allow each child to progress at their own pace and encourage children to develop their unique artistic voice.
